about

This is another project born of the Covid years. As with Dream Your Own Dream, my last release, I needed to find ways to keep my own musical dream alive while enduring the shut down of all live performances, no touring, no gathering. I'm lucky that I was still able to teach online (and still am, if you need any lessons!) but I need to play, too. Dream Your Own Dream was mostly made up of my own original music and a few songs by friends that I'd begun recording over the years and needed to be finished.

A Better World Somewhere includes a couple like that, House of Memories and The Six O'Clock Train And The Girl With Green Eyes, but the rest are all tunes that I love and recorded during the pandemic period. The album has a melancholy feel with a bit of uplift in the middle with Steven Jesse Bernstein's Hope To Live. It's reflective of a lot of my feelings during our enforced loneliness, but I'm still, when it comes right down to it, hopeful. I know there must be a better world somewhere. Let's create it together...best wishes for us all...oj

about

Orville Johnson Seattle, Washington

Orville Johnson was raised in the Illinois heartland. He acquired his love of singing as a youth in the fundamentalist Pentecostal church he attended and, when he later began playing guitar and dobro, responded to the roots music that surrounded him by learning to play the blues, bluegrass, rockabilly, and country music that are all part of the mosaic that characterizes his own mongrel music. ... more
