about

This is Volume One of a collection of unreleased tracks, tracks from albums I have been on with various bands/groups that feature my singing/playing, and stuff from my archives. I'm trying to put everything I can up here on BandCamp so there's a place folks who are interested can find all my available recorded works.

Tracks 1-3 are from the album Travelin' Mood with the band File' Gumbo with whom I've played for many years. There are some other cuts from our catalog I'll get up here shortly. If you want to know more about the band or buy CDs, go here..

Tracks 4-6 are from a disc I made with my friend Scott Law back in the 1990s when we performed frequently as a duo. Scott is doing a lot of great work these days and if you want to know more about him, go here...

Track 7 is from a collection put together by Chris Lunn and Victory Music back in the mid-1980s. My accompanist was a fantastic jazz pianist Peggy Stern. If you want to know more about her, go here...

Track 8 is from my very first solo release The World According to Orville made in those transitional years between vinyl and CDs. This was released on cassette tape!

Track 9 is from a collection of dobro music entitled Resophonics Anonymous, now out of print.

Track 10 is an unreleased version of a Little Feat song I really like.

The writer, musician, and engineering credits are all listed on the individual tracks. Click on each track to find them.

Orville Johnson was raised in the Illinois heartland. He acquired his love of singing as a youth in the fundamentalist Pentecostal church he attended and, when he later began playing guitar and dobro, responded to the roots music that surrounded him by learning to play the blues, bluegrass, rockabilly, and country music that are all part of the mosaic that characterizes his own mongrel music. ... more
