about

This is Volume Three of a collection of unreleased tracks, tracks from albums I have been on with various bands/groups that feature my singing/playing, and stuff from my archives. I'm trying to put everything I can up here on BandCamp so there's a place folks who are interested can find all my available recorded works.

Track 1 is from a CD titled Southern Filibuster:A Tribute to Tut Taylor. It's a collection of songs written by Tut. He was one of the greats in the pantheon of dobro masters. Jerry Douglas (also one of the masters) produced this tribute album and I am honored to be one of the players he invited to participate. We all picked one of Tut's compositions to do. This is mine. If you want to get the whole album, search Amazon, it's there.

Track 2 is from another tribute album, this one for the beloved blues guitar master John Jackson. This is a song John and I used to play together. This album is out of print.

Track 3 and 4 are from a collection of tunes written by Woody Guthrie during a period when he lived in the Pacific Northwest. I was once again honored to be among the performers invited to take part and these are my two contributions. If you'd like to get the whole album (it's good), go to Woody Guthrie's website or the Smithsonian Folkways website..

Track 5 is an unreleased John Hartford cover.

Track 6 is a song I learned from my old bandmate in the Dynamic Logs, Ron W Bailey.

Track 7 is my version of the traditional folk song.

Track 8 is from Jimi Hendrix. A local radio station did a birthday celebration for Jimi and asked several local artists to pick a song of his and do an acoustic arrangement and then sing it live in the studio during a week of birthday events for him. This is my work tape of my arrangement.

The writer, musician, and engineering credits are all listed on the individual tracks. Click on each track to find them.

about

Orville Johnson Seattle, Washington

Orville Johnson was raised in the Illinois heartland. He acquired his love of singing as a youth in the fundamentalist Pentecostal church he attended and, when he later began playing guitar and dobro, responded to the roots music that surrounded him by learning to play the blues, bluegrass, rockabilly, and country music that are all part of the mosaic that characterizes his own mongrel music. ... more
